  • Description

    The person in this position shall work under limited supervision, and on their own initiative. This person shall be responsible for the proper valuation of all categories of inventory for the Chatsworth Precision Division. This person will also be responsible for attaining an intimate knowledge of the computer systems used for purchasing, production control, and manufacturing as they relate to the systems used to cost (value) Raw Materials, Purchased Parts, Work-In-Process, and Finished Goods inventories. A thorough understanding of valuation methods (we use Gross Average Cost) is necessary in analyzing the cost elements of Materials, Labor, and Overhead.


    The responsibility will include, but is not limited to, the following actions:


    Manage inventory transactions related to Raw Materials/Purchased Parts procurement and sign-off prior to vendor payment (including outside processing)


    Process and record transactions related to import purchases of factory supplies


    Review and analyze all ‘cost of sales’ general ledger account transactions


    Coordinate inventory management with Materials Manager and Production Control department including:

                   -cycle count programs

                   -periodic internal audits

                   -periodic review of detail for SMO (slow moving and obsolete) and Excess

                   -off-site inventory


    Manage inventory and manufacturing reserves


    Month-end closing process including

                   -raw materials/Purchased Parts purchases reconciliation to ‘stock-ins’

                   -accruals for RBNI items (received but not invoiced)

                   -analysis of in-transit inventory

                   -work-in-process valuation

                   -finished Goods review

                   -appropriate journal entries to record month-end inventory values



    Prepare margin analysis by product


    Provide unit cost information and assist with quotations


    Prepare ‘cost of sales’ portion of monthly consolidation package (total company)


    Prepare division Monthly Report package used at monthly Operations Review meeting


    Print, distribute, and follow-up on Budget Variance reports


    Provide information to and respond to inquiries of external KPMG auditors


    Assist Controller, Executive, Manufacturing, and Sales personnel with special projects


    Attend job related seminars and conference to maintain current knowledge, skills, and ability



    High School diploma required

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

    Prior experience in general and cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment

    Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

    Possess a sense of urgency
