Description

Occupational Summary: the primary responsibility of a Senior Buyer is to assure that the materials needed for manufacturing and facility requirements are met.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Negotiate short and long term contracts with suppliers;
  • Collect and gather data on potential new suppliers
  • Handle the planning and buying of several types of commodity materials;
  • Negotiate lead time on purchased materials including in house purchased parts;
  • Play an active role in monitoring on-time delivery from suppliers (including in-house suppliers) as well as working with suppliers where improvement is needed;
  • Responsible for inventory turns and inventory levels to support divisional goals;
  • Support quality systems in place to support company values and to comply with necessary requirements;
  • Support the resolution of billing and shipping problems;
  • Cultivate good relationships with suppliers in an effort to get the best prices possible

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or closely related field

 

Experience:

Minimum of 5-7 years experience in purchase of materials in a manufacturing environment

 

Job Skills:

CPM/CPIM Certification

Knowledge of MRP systems

Strong contract negotiation skills

Microsoft Office including Excel

Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

Abilities:

Ability to analyze demand requirements and detailed plans to satisfy the demand

Ability to respond quickly and effectively to shifting demands and priorities

Ability to concisely and accurately report on constraints and issues affecting availability of materials and purchased products

Sense of urgency

Ability to identify good buying opportunities, recognize market fluctuations and capitalize on advantageous buying situations

Ability to maintain effective working relationships
