Job Summary


The Plant Engineer will focus on improving plant performance through improvements to safety, quality, and increased production and / or reducing costs through increasing equipment reliability and improving process flows. The primary objective will be to continue developing and evolving functional excellence within plant operations and take ownership of key initiatives/projects to drive sustainable competitive advantages.


The position is accountable to provide project management, oversight, and coordination of all phases of improvement projects including facility improvement projects, TPM program coordination and capital equipment projects. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: concept development, justification, planning, budgeting /quotation, project implementation and follow up to make sure desired results were achieved and sustained. The position requires a proven performer who can balance multiple priorities to achieve desired, quantified results in a fast paced environment involving interaction with others both within the organization at all levels and outside the organization.


Summary of Essential Job Functions


  • Plan, design, develop cost estimates and implement improvements to plant and equipment, building infrastructure or building structures and renovation to include the use of CAD for plant and equipment layouts as well as office layouts.
  • Work on multiple projects, with production engineering, environment health and safety, and production operations, to create effective, robust, and safe operations. These projects require research, design and implementation of new production processes or modifications to existing production processes, equipment, automation and facilities. All require working with and through the appropriate departments and external contractors as required.
  • Drive the development, training, implementation and management of a TPM program along with the development and improvement of a plant-wide equipment reliability / availability metric as it relates to the facility infrastructure.
  • Learn to operate and employ equipment evaluation tools such as vibration analysis and IR thermo graphic equipment as part of a predictive maintenance program.
  • Develop equipment needs and specifications for new projects (ie automation and new processes or new programs) that would result in the most efficient and cost effective production operation.
  • Support the process of purchasing and installation of new equipment, including estimates of shipping, rigging and installation requirements as well as any construction costs.
  • Work with the plant services team to support Facility’s capital projects to ensure proper documentation, proper time line and budget compliance from start to completion.
  • Remain current on new equipment, techniques, and technology in the industry to seek and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce cost annually.
  • Drive the organization towards sustainability, improved health and safety, fire safety, improved security and building continuity planning.
  • Carry out and monitor projects, provide proper verbal and written update reports and documentation. Ensure communication of results to all levels of the business.
  • Provide leadership, instruction and training to co-workers and others involved in assigned projects as needed.




Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical) or a related discipline.
  • Experience with project manager and who possesses an expert understanding of maintenance and Engineering processes and strategies as they relate to manufacturing process and building construction. He/she must continually be aware of new technologies and innovations applying to his/her field.
  • Exceptional skills at managing multiple technical projects with regard to planning, scheduling, and budgeting in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in facilities HVAC, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems along with a full knowledge of all related safety and code requirements.
  • Outstanding verbal, written communication and presentation skills including project planning and project update communication.
  • Must be driven, dynamic and inquisitive and employ hands-on problem-solving traits.
  • Computer literate in: AutoCAD, Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft Project and other applicable applications.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and how to retrieve and analyze data to develop improvement strategies would be advantageous.
  • Able to drive workplace cleanliness and organization using 6S practices throughout the plant including within the Facilities area.

GRADE: 28      (potential to 29 depending on experience)
